A little pidgin dropped, well dropped might not be the right word, delivered a message to me today. Nightwave of [CAT] formerly Shera of [UTB] helped out Scavenger recently by handing over enough blackrock stew to bond one of the new Bane Dragons. These items are extremely valuable, and it shows that though they may have left our ranks, UTB never left their minds.

Scavenger and myself both felt this deserved a little recognition and if you see Nightwave around be sure to say “Hail and Well Met!”

I came across this tonight talking with one of our members. Now we all know that those who either are or have previously held positions as Full Members of UTB are welcome back, as long as they left the guild in good standing. But what about New Members? I have the answer to that for all of you since it has changed somewhat in the not so distant past.

Requirements to becoming a Member of the United Tamers of Britannia.

Ronin

Ronin will be required to have at least a minimum of 50 (Apprentice) taming, without the benefit of jewelry or other skill enhancement items. They will remain as Ronin until such time as they have achieved a rank of Expert Tamer (70 Skill) without the benefit of jewelry or skill enhancement items, or until the next meeting which ever is longer.

This gives new tamers a place to learn and a way to communicate with fellows that truly understand the terrible pains of success and disappointment that comes with gaining skill as a Tamer, while giving time to evaluate the prospective and judging their ability to mesh well with the guild in and of itself. This can be thought of as an apprenticeship program; once one shows the ability to pass beyond and act accordingly they move on to full membership.

Full Membership

Expert Tamers (70 Skill) can apply for full membership. They will remain as Ronin for 1 week or until the next guild meeting which ever is longer. This gives a time to evaluate the prospective member and get a “feel” for them and how they will mesh with current members, at the end of this period it will be decided to either promote them to full members, extend their time as Ronin, or dismiss them from the guild with an explanation as to why. Reapplying is allowed after 3 months, if dismissed.

So what this means is someone can join us as a Ronin after making a newbie tamer, we will be able to help groom and assist them in developing their character, and learning the tricks of the trade so to speak. This is necessary these days since it’s rare to find a un-guilded developed tamer running around. So everyone just remember if you have a friend that’s never played a tamer, we have a home for him all he needs to do is create one!

I want everyone to go to the Forums and help start discussing a date that we can all meet up and have a nice little chat. I have a few topics I want to go over that many of you may have interest in, and I want your assistance with some of them. The following items are going to be up for discussion.

Membership, and How to Increase it.

Alliance Status, Good, Bad, or Indifferent

Guild Charter, The original is pretty much lost, and it was archaic we should draft a new one.

These things are going to be important if we are to start building our Ranks back up at all. I want to touch on some of the finer points of each issue here before it goes to an open discussion.

Membership:

We know times are tough, in UO and outside of it. Being a “Selective” guild, well pretty much being a True Guild by the definition of the word we’re harder than most to join. We need to evaluate our Recruitment policies, and start up a system of drawing recruits. This could be events where we help new tamers and at the same time offer them a place in the Guild if they seem a likely candidate.

Alliance Status:

How do you guys feel about the alliance we’re in? We’ve been in it a few months now and if it’s not providing you with anything as far as companionship then we may need to evaluate our options. It’s up to you guys really, I want to know what you think, if you think UTB would be better off elsewhere then say it. If you are thrilled with the alliance we are in now then say so. I want to make it so the guild votes on continuing the Alliance every 3 months starting with the Next Meeting. This allows us room to move if the fit into an alliance is a bad one, or a chance to make plans to dedicate ourselves more strongly to an alliance that fits well. We should not take an alliance on blind faith, we do have options, and benefits for the guilds involved in an alliance should work both ways with each guild getting something out of it.

Guild Charter:

Our Guild needs an active charter, this sets down responsibilities and expectation of all members, and guidelines determining not only recruitment but day to day operations of the guild. The Original Charter has pretty much been lost to antiquity, and even then so much has changed in the world of Ultima Online that many of it’s strictures may now not apply to day to day in the game. A new charter also opens us up to a means to determine what to do in the event leadership goes “Poof” on us and establishes a chain of command.

So please Everyone that reads this and has an interest in The United Tamers of Britannia: Chesapeake, please visit, register on the forums and post when you’ll be available. We also need a contact listing established for members so that notices can be sent out.

Since it has been a long long time since I did an update on the front page (namely due to how tedious it was with Joomla), I thought I’d bring everyone up to speed and make a few past due announcements.

First Volrina has left the building, he left UO last fall and officially handed over the guild back to myself in March. In doing so he passed on a few relics that Trinity North didn’t pass on to me when he transferred the Guild Leadership oh so long ago. Namely this means that the Original UTB:Chesapeake Guildstone now resides in the Guild Hall located north of Minoc at my Keep. Along with that the Guild Treasury was transferred back and it’s contents are safely tucked away.

A Rune Library was added to the Guild Hall, Some time early this year Eliza’s Stargate Runeatorium went into decay status and when it went IDOC I made the effort to recover about 90% of the runebooks it contained. These are now set up and publicly accessible at the Guild Hall in colored Chests, and include most of your standard Tram/Fel runes along with a complete set of Tram/Fel T-Map books. Anyone wishing to add to the Library please drop off books I’ll add a new Guild Chest engraved with “Rune Drop Off” and start adding them to the collection.

A new job tied me up for quite some time where I wasn’t able to really do much in the way of helping UTB, though before that I entered it into alliance with O_W. Now that several months have passed I want to get feedback from members on how they feel about this alliance after spending time with it. Also I have appointed Scavenger as a Co-Guild Leader because of this. He’s been making some effort in trying to boost the guild up a bit so he’s been given a reward for doing so. If I’m not available to recruit someone or to discuss a potential recruit please talk to him if possible. If neither of us are on then E-mail me with contact info on the recruit at Nexus@unitedtamersofbritannia.com and I’ll get up with them to arrange a time to discuss them joining.

I’d also like to see if we can arrange a meeting night among us still active members. We have a few things to discuss I’m sure, primarily how to build the guild up a bit. One thing I don’t want to hear from people though is “Your the Guild Leader it’s your job” because that’s not true. We either sink or swim together, and I feel that anyone that really has pride in wearing a UTB tag should be making a positive effort to expand and boost the guild. Guilds like RBG got to their size because the people in the guild wanted to see the guild prosper and put forth the effort to do so. I’m not expecting UTB to have 200 members, after all we’re selective, but I am saying that we can expand our ranks if we all pass the word around that there is a home just for Tamers out there.

I recently acquired a house spot on my second account along the walls of Zento, if anyone would like to put up a vendor please let me know……You can ICQ me at 18971987.

Also for those interested UTB’s Crafters guild is still around. Kitsune Bi [FOX] if you want in just ask…..send an ICQ or catch me in game.

This is very important….The URL for the Forums has Changed!! You can use the old one as it re-directs now, but please update your bookmarks with http://www.forums.unitedtamersofbritannia.com

That pretty much wraps up things to date.

The days and nights started to blur and time meant little to the elf knowing he’d live for centuries. Knowing that he’d see many more days has a relevant danger though, things go unnoticed as the wash of weeks and months start to blend and meld into the rest. So it came with a surprise to find that Volrina Quarra had departed the world not just yesterday but many months ago, and that his beloved guild The United Tamers of Britannia was struggling to survive without someone to steer it and guide it. Looking over the roster Nexus found that only about a half a dozen still actively carried and displayed the markings of a United Tamer around the realm. “How did we fall so far, so fast?”, he found himself wondering, “Is UTB destined to collapse, or is to to become fading reflection of the past like PaxLair, or The Army of the Dragon?” A cold fear settled into the pit of his stomach, a day where he’d truly be alone, a day where the blazon of the United Tamers would be worn only upon his own breast and no one would recognize it for what is once was.

This isn’t going to happen, it can’t continue this way, something has to be done. With a grim determination Nexus decides to send out the call to all those still remembering the old code, a rally to decide the fate of the United Tamers. “I know one that will answer, Scavenger remembers…” Nexus thought, maybe Scavenger should be allowed more weight in the doings of the Guild. “Theralyn II had recently returned from the shadows maybe they can help?”, “What of our brothers and sisters that were lost, left the chaos that tormented the Guild long ago to find comfort in the arms of other organizations?, can they be tempted back into the fold?”. The United Tamers need a Rebirth, a New approach to facing these difficult times for the Entire Realms, with any luck these handful of members can bring some glory back to the Guild.

I’m sure some of you have noticed that I’ve scrapped the Joomla powered front in for something simpler. With that I also scrapped the out dated posts. The reasoning for this was simple: The Joomla CMS was too much for what was needed, and also had complexities that made updating it more of a chore than using a simpler system like the one I now have installed. Due to this I’m having to create a Re-Direct to the Forums, until my Host gets this updated the Forums will be back online. The Forums will now be located at http://www.forums.unitedtamersofbritannia.com please remember to update your bookmarks once they are back online.
